The Grand Bazaar & Kusadasi Market
Located in the heart of the city near the cruise port, the bazaar is a labyrinth of shops selling everything imaginable. This is the place to find a bargain and soak up the atmosphere.
- What to find: Leather goods, carpets and kilims, ceramics, spices, textiles, jewellery and Turkish delight. Ask about origin, materials and returns rather than assuming every item is locally made.
- Negotiating: Polite negotiation may be appropriate for some unpriced goods, but there is no universal “start at half” rule. Fixed-price shops, supermarkets and restaurants are different.
- Counterfeits: Fake branded goods can be confiscated at your destination and may raise customs or legal issues. Check the rules before buying.
